Avail yourself for a successful enumeration exercise

The National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) starts on Monday, June 28 to July 11, 2021 with call on family heads and other responsible persons with indepth knowledge about their households individuals to avail themselves to give informations about the household in the 2021 population exercise.
Mr. Amatus Nobabumah, the Bono Regional Statistician who made the call explained that the National Population and Housing Census is not only about counting structures and the people, but a comprehensive interview about the household, therefore, family heads availability is very crucial to assist the census officials for accurate informations.
This was in a brief interview during a tour in the Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities on the census night of 27th June 2021 which marked the ‘reference point’ of the enumeration exercise.
According to Mr. Nobabumah, family heads and responsible individual with knowledge about everybody of the household should prepare to give out information such as name, age, religious background, employment and issues relating to disability about people of the household.
He added the census officials would also inquire information about the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage which is very critical, issues about sanitation, thus waste disposal, sources of potable drinking water and fertility of women of the house.
Activities of the census night of the began with sensitization of people in the two Municipalities to create the awareness that 12:00 midnight of Monday, 28 June begins the enumeration of household exercise to July 11, 2021.
Mr. Nobabumah further explained that midnight float with fire crackers on the principle streets and the Ghana National Fire Service thunder siren coupled with information centers’ broadcasting in between the hours of 11:00 pm of Sunday and 12:00 am of Monday, June 28 was “to leave a lasting memory in the minds of the people about the 2021 enumeration exercise”.
Everybody in Ghana matters in the NPHC exercise, he stated.
In that regard, the census officials embarked on enumeration of night travellers at the bus terminals in Sunyani.
The night enumeration officials also engaged the adult sleepless zone, thus the homeless individuals who are found sleeping in front of storesand other structures in Sunyani.
They further enumerated “unstable institutional population” such as prayer camps, hospitals, hotels and guest houses to know the number of people in those places on the census night.
He said persons such as Journalists, nurses, Policemen, watchman and others on work duty on the census night would be enumerated as part of their households.
