A Conflict Resolution training workshop for ‘Professional Mediation’ for effective Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has been held at the Catholic University of Ghana, at Fiapre near Sunyani.

It was a five-day training (Monday to Friday) organized by the Marian Conflict Resolution Centre to enable participants acquire deep knowledge, competency and skills as mediators in dispute resolutions.

The aim was also to enhance the ability of mediators in analysing stages of situation leading to conflict and applying the right approaches in dealing with them.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Mrs Vida Korang, the Executive Director of the Marian Conflict Resolution Centre stated mediators are critical in dispute resolution, hence the workshop to equip participants to become professionals in the provision of amicable solutions to disputes that may occur.

Participants would were given skills in areas such as “Understanding Conflict, Introduction to ADR, Negotiation and Introduction to Mediation”.
Other topics included “Mediation Skills, Communication in Dispute Resolution, Mediation Ethics and Drafting of Mediation Agreement”.

Professor Daniels Obeng Ofori, the Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University noted nothing works in an environment without peace, hence, events of such nature are always needed for knowledge acquisition in building a peaceful society, nation and the global village.

The Marian Conflict Resolution Centre was opened at the University College of Ghana in 2011 and has since been training ADR practitioners to be competent in handling ADR cases.
