Gays have 18% HIV Prevalence – Ghana AIDS Commission

The Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that HIV prevalence among gays’ thus men who have sex with men (MSM) is 18 per cent nationwide.
The Commission again revealed that Female Sex Workers (FSWs) also have 4.5 per cent prevalence of the HIV virus.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions Technical Coordinator of the Commission disclosed this to the media in an interview.
This is from the Commission’s 2020 data report gathered in 2021, he said.
According to Mr. Bambilla, elaborate celebration of funerals and festivals were the major factors contributing to the increasing spread of the HIV virus and the MSM and FSWs are amongst the fast spreading agents.
He therefore urged the public to take caution during this Christmas festive season.
