Green Ghana Project: Bono Region To Plant 1.2Million Trees In June 2022

Bono region to plant 1.2 million tress in 2022

Mr. Stephen Mwinayelle, the Deputy Bono Regional Manager, Forest Services Division (FSD) said the region would receive 1.2 million tree seedlings to be planted for the 2022 Green Ghana project.

He disclosed in an interview with Newsmen on Wednesday in Sunyani, and added the Regional Office of the FSD would produce 30 per cent of the 1.2 million seedlings to supplement the government’s efforts.


In distribution, Mr. Mwinayelle explained Sunyani and Dormaa Forest Districts would receive 600,000 and 400,000 seedlings respectively while the Regional Office of the FSD take 200,000 tree seedlings to be distributed to individuals and organizations upon request.


He further explained two compartments made up of 256 hectares have been demarcated in the Sunyani Forest District’s Forest Reserve to plant a total of 332,800 trees out of the 600,000.


Mr. Mwinayelle added the remaining 267,200 seedlings for the Sunyani Forest District would be distributed to individuals, organizations, churches, schools and others to plant on their private lands.


There were also two compartments made up of 256 hectares of land demarcated to take care of 332,800 seedlings out of the 400,000 for the Dormaa Forest Districts, he said, adding, the remaining 67,200 would also be distributed to the associations and individuals to plant on their private lands.


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources launched the 2022 edition of the Green Ghana Day in Accra.


It was on the theme: “Mobilizing for a Greener Future” and 20 million trees seedlings were targeted to be planted nationwide on June 10 this year.
