Holistic development activists in Sunyani have expressed gratitude to President Nana Akuffo-Addo for the phase one of the Sunyani airport rehabilitation project.

Phase one of the airport’s rehabilitation work was completed and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and Ministers, Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as stakeholders in the Aviation and transport sector commissioned it on Wednesday.

The colourful ceremony at the airport was witnessed by Chiefs, youth groups, security agencies, institutional Directors, business gurus, Assembly members, development activists and individuals.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Ransford Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sunyani based Suncity group of companies said “I  hope this marks the beginning of great things to come for our dear region”.

“Thanks you to the President, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the government for the Phase 1 of the Sunyani Airport Rehabilitation works”, he expressed gratitude.

Mr. Antwi, also a convener for the ‘Bono/Sunyani Deserves Better’ demonstrators added “we’re patiently looking forward to the early start and completion of the second phase as well, so that we can properly call this an airport”.

Indeed the President and his entourage were the first beneficiaries of the rehabilitated Airport since they fly in and the entire ceremony took them about two hours for them to return to Accra, he stated.

Touching on the deteriorated roads in the region, Mr. Antwi observed “as we all know, the roads leading to the airport, the entire region are in bad shape and the President needs to act, because many have lost their lives due to the bad nature of our roads”.

On health care services in the region, Mr. Antwi called on Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu the Health Minister to kindly ensure Bono region gets a teaching hospital, saying, “the current state of our Regional Hospital is scary, to say the least…”.

“Our Regional Hospital is an empty shell with no tools for health personnel to work with. We have Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, one of the longest serving Health Ministers in the history of the 4th republic, who happens to be one of our own, please, do something about this. Kindly  ensure we have a teaching hospital under your tenure”.
Mr. Antwi emphasized “Our Sports Stadium issue still remains unresolved and we’ll not keep quiet about it”.

“We are not oblivious of the current financial challenges, yet we appreciate your resolve to continue with your developmental agenda and for that matter request that you do not discount our request tabled in a petition before you”, he stated.
