Bono region has over 22,000 people living with HIV – Ghana AIDS Commission

The Bono region is leading the country with over 22,000 people living with HIV, the Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed.
According to the Commission, the figure represents 2.61 per cent prevalence and described the situation as an alarming one.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions Technical Coordinator of the Commission revealed when speaking to the media in Sunyani.
Mr. Bambilla said the figures were from the Commission’s 2020 data report gathered in 2021 and is likely the 2021 data would be higher.
He indicated that elaborate celebration of funerals and festivals and very low rate of condom usage leading factors causing rapid spread of the virus.
He pleaded with parents to keep eye on their children at all times, explaining that growing population of female sex workers and men who have sex with men are other activities fast spreading the HIV in the region.
