The Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that 80 per cent of HIV Transmission is caused by sexual relationships.
The Commission said Mother to Child transmission of the virus also contributes 15 per cent.
This is according to the Commission’s 2020 HIV data report gathered in 2021, and available to this writer.
Blood and blood products mode of transmission is 5 per cent, the data added.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions Technical Coordinator of the Commission disclosed this to this writer in an interview.
He explained that funeral and festival celebrations were some of the major factors contributing to the increasing spread of the HIV virus through ignition of sexual activities.
He therefore cautioned the general public to be mindful and use condom if one can not abstain.
