The Sunyani Youth Development Association (SYDA) has donated a sewing machine to a student of the Methodist Technical/Vocational Institute at Baakoniaba, a suburb in Sunyani for practical work in the sewing and fashion programme.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on behalf of the institute’s management after a short presentation ceremony, Mrs. Monica Oforiwaa Asiedu, the Vice-Principal, Administration expressed gratitude to SYDA for the support.
She said the institute runs programmes that include sewing and fashion, auto mechanic, welding and fabrication, wood technology, hospitality and catering, electricals and electronics as well as building and construction technology.
Mrs. Asiedu said the sewing and fashion department had more than 180 students with only two teachers and inadequate sewing machines, but added a minimum of four teachers coupled with availability of more machines were required for the students’ practical work.
She expressed the Institute’s willingness to partner SYDA to continue and improve practical training for the students during vacation.
Mr. Atta Akoto Senior, the President of SYDA said the support was to complement government’s effort to promoting Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for accelerated national development.
The beneficiary, Ms Blessing Adoko, also a trainee of the Association pleaded with philanthropists to support the Institute with tools and equipment to facilitate practicals to enhance effective teaching and learning.
